One page per focus area

The audit is whole school, and it is the school's own self-evaluation against your expectations. For every expectation you rate the school Emerging, Developing or Secure and give your evidence, with links to your other SEND and inclusion documents. The best practice recommendations and the Teachers' Standards are a click away, so nobody has to guess what Secure looks like.

Each focus area ends with its strengths and areas for development, and those feed the action plan. When the next audit comes round you can see the progress since last year, and celebrate it.

3 ways to run it, your choice

  • On your own, kept inside the school. People are honest when nobody is marking them, and it is the quickest way to get the senior team talking about inclusion.
  • With a peer, another school's SENCO looking in. Fresh eyes on the same expectations, and the two schools come away with a shared language.
  • With the council, your specialist teams alongside. The Experts at Hand see where the school needs help, and the training and resources follow.
