Award* winning websites

Rosette Small websites that everyone can use

*Our awards are the web standards each site is checked against, starting with WCAG 2.2 for accessibility.

For disabled people, freelancers and small organisations working in SEND, inclusion and disability. I build it, look after it and answer when you call. You never have to touch the technical side.

A rosette is what you win at the village show for the best in its class. Ours are web standards. Each one is earned, page by page, before a site goes live.

Who it's for

People whose website has to be as accessible as the work they do. Independent SEND consultants, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, disabled trainers and speakers, parent carer forums, small charities, disabled-led businesses, and inclusion and access advisers.

What you get

Everyone can use it

Including people who cannot see the screen, use a keyboard instead of a mouse, need bigger text or find busy pages hard. I test every page myself, the way they would use it.

Easy to change yourself

Each page has simple boxes for its words and pictures. Type in the box and press save. There is nothing to drag around, and it works with a screen reader.

Quick, even on an old phone

No adverts, no tracking and no cookie pop-up asking visitors to agree to anything.

Easy to get in touch

Your email address and phone number on every page, written out so they can be read, copied or pressed. People write to you from their own email, the way they already know, and it lands in your inbox. No form to fight with, and nothing for spam robots to fill in.

Bring your own email

Your email stays where it is, whether that is Gmail, Outlook or somewhere else, and nothing about it changes when the site goes live.

Kept safe

Your site is backed up every day and kept up to date.

A short report every month

How many people visited, which pages they read, how they found you and how many pressed your email address. Written in plain sentences, so there are no charts to work out.

Nothing gets lost when you move

If you already have a website, links people saved to your old pages still work.

Our rosettes

Anyone can say a website is accessible. Mine are checked against every one of these before they go live.

  • WCAG 2.2, level AA. The international standard for accessible websites, and the one councils, schools and the NHS ask for. Checked by tools and by me with a screen reader and a keyboard. Level AAA, the highest, where you need it.
  • An accessibility statement. A page saying what has been tested, anything that falls short and how a visitor can ask for something in another format.
  • Works without the extras. Every page still works if a visitor's browser blocks scripts or their signal drops out.
  • Standard web code. Pages are built the way browsers and screen readers expect, so they work on any device, old or new.
  • Google's Lighthouse checks. Google's free tests for speed and accessibility, out of 100. The latest site I built scored 100 for both.
  • UK privacy law. No tracking cookies, so no cookie pop-up and nothing to explain under UK GDPR.
  • Cyber Essentials. Pop Pop Studio is certified under the UK government's scheme for basic cyber security.
  • Hosted in the UK. Your site, and anything your visitors send you, stays on servers in the UK with Krystal, the UK's largest independent web host. Simon Blackler started it in 2002 and still runs it, so it is not part of a big group that could be sold on.
  • ISO 27001. Krystal holds the international standard for keeping information safe, one councils and the NHS often ask suppliers about.
  • Cyber Essentials Plus. Krystal is certified to the independently tested level of the UK government's cyber security scheme.
  • Certified B Corp. Krystal's data centres run on 100 per cent renewable power from Ecotricity, and it gives 1 per cent of its sales to environmental causes through 1% for the Planet.
  • W3C Web Sustainability Guidelines. Small pages that use less energy to send and show, hosted on renewable power.

How it works

  1. A chat. Tell me what you do and who you want to reach. It costs nothing.
  2. A plan and a price. Which pages you need, what goes on them and what it costs. Agreed before I start, and the price does not change.
  3. A look before anyone else. I build it somewhere private. You try it out the way you would use it and tell me what to change.
  4. Live. I put it on your web address. Old links still work, and your email carries on exactly as before.
  5. Looked after. Updates, backups, small changes, a short report each month, and a person to talk to when something looks wrong.

What it costs

A fixed price to build it. Agreed before I start, and it does not go up.

From £20 a month for hosting, backups, updates, small changes and your monthly report.

Talk it through

Tell me what you do and who you need to reach. I'll say whether Rosette is the right thing, and if it is not, what is.
