QR codes

Type an address, get a code you can print. No account and nothing stored. The code is made and checked on our server, then forgotten.

The code holds the address itself. It never expires and nobody tracks the scans.

Paste the full address, starting with https. Shorter addresses make simpler codes that scan from further away.

Background colour

The squares are always black, which scans and prints on anything. The background can be white or any pale colour, as a six character hex code from your brand guidelines, such as #fdf6e3.

Which address to put in the code

  1. Best, a short address on your own domain. Ask your web team for a redirect such as yourcouncil.gov.uk/send-offer. It is short, it carries your name, you can change where it points, and nobody else is involved. Most web teams can set one up in a day.
  2. Otherwise, the full address. It makes a busier code, but it is yours and it never expires.
  3. A qr42.uk short link when neither works. For an address you cannot shorten, when you want to count scans, or when you need something short to print beside the code. Sign in to make one.

Before you print

  1. Print it at least 2 cm wide for close scanning, and about a tenth of the scanning distance for a poster. One metre away means 10 cm wide.
  2. Keep the clear margin around the code. Do not stretch it or lay anything over it.
  3. Put the address in words next to the code, and say what it does, such as "Scan to book". People with screen readers, old phones or no data need the words.
  4. Scan the print on your own phone before you print a run.
  5. Do not put a code where people are already on their phone, like an email or a web page. Use a link there.

A short code with analytics

A qr42.uk link makes a simpler code, gives you something short to print beside it, and counts scans by day with nothing kept about the person. You can change where it points later, and nobody else can.

This one is real. It goes to our Placid page and counts every scan.

Short codes and their scan counts need a free account. Make a code from a web address above, then sign in to shorten it.
