£200m SEND and inclusion continuing professional development (CPD)

Last week the DfE held a "market engagement" webinar for people interested in providing training. It was interesting to see what they are thinking.

Here's a snippet.

"Evidence shows that ensuring every teacher is able to deliver high-quality teaching is essential to achieving the best outcomes for all pupils and students. The new training offer will cover children with SEND in their earliest years, through to age 25, restoring parents' confidence that their children will be supported throughout every stage of their education."

"There will also be a new expectation set out in the SEND Code of Practice, to ensure staff in every nursery, school and college receive training on SEND and inclusion, supported with government-backed training materials and building on existing effective practice."

Key features include

• A package of high-quality training materials to support the delivery of in-house training
• New, free CPD courses for teachers and leaders in schools and further education settings
• New training for teaching and learning support assistants
• A new Early Years Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme
• Curriculum in Practice resources to support teachers to adapt the curriculum to meet a range of needs

A market engagement is basically trying to find out if there are organisations out there who are willing and able to make the training happen, in some fairly tight timelines. It'll all be over by the end of 2029.

I haven't seen a lot of commentary on the training. I'm not sure why. Maybe people are waiting to see what it might look like. There's a couple of links at the end of the newsletter.

But as part of the market engagement, the DfE is asking suppliers to complete a questionnaire, and maybe have a one to one with some potential suppliers.

I'm going to answer the questionnaire, and I hope to get a one to one.
